Some weeks I experience soaring through multitudes of portals into new awakenings of consciousness. This has not been one of those weeks. I am calling this a week of Cosmic Funkiness. A week ago when I turned on my faithful laptop I saw a 3/4 black screen display and 1/4 of colored spider web shapes. It clearly was sick. Two days later my town of 26,000 had a water main break causing a boil water advisory for the entire city and part of the county lasting for a few days. In the outer world all throughout the week interesting political agendas were served on a platter of distraction sandwiches. Because one of my practices is meditation I took the cosmic funky week there in the silence and heard “ releasing any expectation of how I perceive life is supposed to show up is crucial!” Every night I was having strange dreams including one night I had 5 different ones!
I have never been a superficial observer of my own or the world events of life , and this week of cosmic funk had my attention. Being sensitive to energies it did not surprise me to find out a Black New Moon was on its way. A Black new moon occurs about every 29-33 months and is a third new moon in a season that has four. When a fourth sneaks in, it is rare. This black moon means near total darkness creating darker than usual night skies.
Symbolically a black moon is a powerful time for releasing that which is not serving us. Not only that but it is actually a significant reset and turning point both globally and in our respective lives. So, this black moon HIDES! It is offering us each a chance to integrate portals of our shadow with compassion. Our shadow side is that part of us we try to hide from ourselves, the side we perceive to be unacceptable, offensive, repressed emotions, desires, impulsivity, and negative thoughts.
As I reflect on the possibilities of transformation during this black moon I feel the calling of the Hindu Goddess , Kali who is associated with time, great change, and destruction of injustices , pain, sorrow, death, and decay. Kali perhaps is calling each of us during the dark new moon to accept, not deny what needs to die within us . She reveals our mortality to our innermost being by showing we (who finally are willing ) to be released from the web of rationalization and pretense that has cloaked our very existence! Kali offers us to step into fierce battle with her to uphold our internal cosmic order over disorder.
Both the black moon and Kali impose questions upon us reminding each the deep work of the Mystical Warrior is not for the faint of heart. Do you choose stagnation of how you are living or do you embrace this huge push of a re-set? Are you willing to shed your old, depleted skin or will you resist by holding on to all blocking you? What are you pretending not to see in yourself? What habits and patterns continue to drain your personal power? Where do you need to practice self forgiveness? What new intentions for skills and talents are you ready and willing to create and develop? What negative patterns need to be cleansed and purified? What fears and attachments need to be severed? What people , false beliefs , and situations need to be cut out of your life?
No matter what you choose to deny under the Black New Moon, the Universe will know if you are choosing to re-set or to do nothing.False intentions and feeble efforts of change will boomerang halfway and will give you only half results.
It is a time to seek deep attunement with yourself, with all relationships, and with your place in your community and the world. You can choose to engage by creating a sacred space for yourself, journal your specific intentions for the creation of new starts, and act on cleansing and release rituals. The dark sky is perfect for introducing and accepting positive changes as we surrender old patterns in a pathway for new possibilities. Welcome the darkness in order to claim the freedom of your destined Light. Only you can decide and put into action planting of seeds to grow into fruition.
” If everything around you seems dark, look again, you may be the Light.” — Rumi
