Lessons Of Sacred Reflections

I often reflect on the wisdom of the Ancient Civilizations and how pertinent their teachings can be applied today. With the rise in technology in the past few years I wonder if it is higher technology we need or if it is remembering how the sacred elements taught humankind how to be in harmony with nature. Almost every ancient civilization embraced five elements: Water-Earth-Fire-Air-Ether. Recently because of severe flooding in various parts of the United States I have been called to honor Water. In addition at the time I am writing it is also the time of a full moon. When I took both these themes into meditation I had one of those AHA moments of the connection. Both water and the moon are about reflection. The illumination of the full moon is a reflection of cycles. I have long understood the full moon amplifies emotions, making it an appropriate time to release strong emotions that come to the surface of my consciousness. Add to this opportunity the element of water which is about inner reflection, renewal, and going deep. There is a Taoist Proverb that comes to mind regarding water: “No one can see their reflection in running water. It is only in still water that we can see.”

The lessons of slowing down and through mindful self awareness looking at all versions of ourselves that have made up who we have become in the present , reflecting our human condition in a sacred way , and using the element of water along with the radiance of the full moon as catalysts, I believe can be an internal awakening of asking ourselves some pertinent questions. If we refuse to reflect on the things we have had the opportunities to learn we may forget those things and it stands to reason we will have a harder time applying those very lessons in a world that appears to have been turned upside down and inside out! Asking ourself self reflection questions regularly is transformational and can be the portal to guide us further on our pathway to personal and spiritual growth.

You can decide on your own questions . I thought I would share mine .

-What are my core values and are there any people or situations in my life I allow myself to compromise my values ? Do I compromise out of self love or do I compromise out of people pleasing?

-What challenges and obstacles have I faced and how did I jump over those hurdles to reach success?

-Do I have dreams and ambitions I am willing to sacrifice never attaining? Why and what am I allowing this? Am I comfortable with this choice?

-Are the core group of people in my life those who lift me, empowering me to thrive, or are they sucking me dry leaving me feeling depleted?

-Do I feel free to state my wants and needs? If not, how can I be a more effective communicator with those close to me? Do I risk being vulnerable to ask and state my wishes? Am I willing to do the same for my people?

-Are there any past negative or traumatic experiences contributing to my claiming positive aspects and perspectives? Do I need to reach out to a coach, therapist , or another I trust for help with this?

-Am I happy in my life most of the time? How do I define my happiness?

-Who in my past or present has made an impact on my life? How can I express gratitude about that?

-What am I proud of that I accomplished in my past? What have I done recently that I honor and love that I accomplished?

-What solutions do I now have to get me through challenges ? How do I create new solutions for old patterns of recycled behavior?

Sacred Reflection questions are great but they will not help unless they are applied in various areas of our life. Practice makes progress but we don’t have to be perfect! Sacred reflections when done frequently will help us understand ourselves on a deeper level and pave the way for transformational change . When we celebrate being the best version of ourselves others are inspired to do the same! This is a not only a gift of self love, but a blessing we can offer by being a walking example for our fellow humans!

  1. What is meant by this phrase: Are there any past negative or traumatic experiences contributing to my claiming positive aspects and perspectives?

    1. Some people have unhealed and or unresolved experiences from their past that continue to influence and affect their choices, decisions, actions, and perspectives. If so, this can be reason present aspects are skewed or blocked.
